Princess Diana adopted this posture because she was shy and wanted to protect herself from the stares of others by keeping her head down. She was also aware that Prince Charles was the same height as her, so she wore flat shoes and initially tried to appear smaller. This upward gaze earned her the nickname Shy Di.
