Why did Princess Diana have the habit of bowing her head and looking up when she smiled?

Princess Diana adopted this posture because she was shy and wanted to protect herself from the stares of others by keeping her head down. She was also aware that Prince Charles was the same height as her, so she wore flat shoes and initially tried to appear smaller. This upward gaze earned her the nickname Shy Di.

Diana also tended to smile without showing her teeth, making her look shy in this regard as well. Later, Diana began to smile fully and lost that shy look that enchanted the entire world.
