“Love cannot live where there is no Trust” the saying goes Indeed, Trust is the necessary bridge to bond two hearts together in any relationship. So when he fell in love with Catherine, William knew that beyond the lust he felt for the pretty brunette with laughing green eyes, he could not simply think with his heart and blindly trust her; Too much was at stake: his heart, his dreams of having a stable family and a lasting marriage but also the Future of the Monarchy depended on him making a sound choice of a bride.
Thus, William didn’t go into this relationship simply with his heart, but he went in with his head as well, As his longtime advisor and former private secretary Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton said of the young man he mentored into adulthood: “William was always someone of deeply impressive maturity, He is very analytical. He asks all the questions and makes sure that he’s clear about what you’re asking him to do.”
Indeed during an interview discussing the causes he supports, William revealed this analytical side of him. He said: “I am focused rather than strategic, I would say. When I get involved in something, I want to go into depth, I want to understand what I’m getting into, I want to understand the complexity of all the issues, and, above all, I want to make a difference”.
In a way, that’s exactly how he approached Catherine: First, he observed her, then he focused on her. Then he got involved with her and began to dig deeper to understand her complexity: What drives her? What are her weaknesses and strengths? Did she love him for himself or for what he stood for? Was her loyalty to him truly unwavering? Could he trust her?
William put Catherine to the test again and again until he was sure she was the one for him; it took him eight years to make it, and the trials began at university. As an introverted commoner dating the most famous and celebrated heir to the royal family, Catherine quickly has to get used to the challenges she faces: the strict snobbery of William’s exclusive circle of friends, the misogyny directed at her, her mother and her sister, but also the jealousy of the other girls, including Prince William’s ex-girlfriend.
Indeed before dating Catherine, William was dating Carly Massy-birch, an English major student during his freshers year. Per her mother, Mimi Birch’s account, the fling lasted about 6 to 8 weeks before they broke up as Carley found the constraints and secret security planning of his status too much to deal with. However, females are what they are and it does not mean Carly was happy to see William move on soon after with Catherine and even move into a house off Campus with her In ‘Kate, our Future Queen’, Katie Nicholls, retold how, when William and Catherine moved out of the dorm to live with Fergus and Olivia on Hope street, in the center of town, Carly ended up living across the street from them; which Catherine did not care for, one bit One evening in 2002, all 3 ended up invited to the same dinner party.
William and Catherine were secretly together but didn’t tell anyone. They participated in the “I never” drinking game.
