Catherine, Princess of Wales Shows Her Mom-Mode Side During Three Peaks Mountain Challenge

A Touching Moment with a Brave Young Boy on the Scottish Slopes

Kensington Palace announced on Sunday, June 28, that the Princess of Wales, 44, successfully completed the National Three Peaks Challenge — a symbolic feat aimed at highlighting life beyond cancer and supporting The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

What Is the Three Peaks Challenge?

The challenge requires participants to climb the highest mountains in Scotland, England, and Wales within a strict 24-hour window. The Princess set off on Saturday evening and completed the demanding 23-mile route, which involves a total elevation gain of over 10,000 feet.

A Heartfelt Exchange with a Young Boy

While climbing Ben Nevis in Scotland, the Princess paused to speak with an 11-year-old boy named Ted Haslam, who was taking on the challenge with the help of family and friends pushing and carrying his wheelchair throughout the trek.

In a moment that reflected her nature as a mother of three, the Princess gently checked on how the boy was coping with the cold weather, remarking with surprise that some participants were still wearing T-shirts despite the chill. She also asked about his “lucky mascot,” tied to the Molly Ollys charity for which he was raising funds.

Ted was left paralyzed after being diagnosed with a rare spinal tumor at the age of three. He undertook the challenge as a tribute to the charity that supported him during his hospital treatment.

A Personal Journey Through Illness

It’s worth noting that the Princess revealed in March 2024 that she was undergoing cancer treatment, and announced in January 2025 that she had entered remission following a visit to The Royal Marsden Hospital. She has previously spoken about how connecting with nature helped her get through this difficult period.

At the end of her journey at Mount Snowdon in Wales, she was greeted by Prince William, their three children, her parents Carole and Michael Middleton, and her brother James Middleton.

The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity also announced the launch of a dedicated donation page to support cancer patients, noting that the funds raised will go toward providing more holistic care.
