James Middleton Recalls a Promise Made to Sister Kate During Her Cancer Battle

A Pact Made in Difficult Times

James Middleton, 39, has opened up about a personal promise he once made to his sister, Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, while she was undergoing cancer treatment. The heartfelt reflection came alongside photos shared on Instagram showing the siblings completing a major hiking challenge together.

In a post shared on Sunday, July 5, James expressed how proud he was of his sister and revealed that the climb was the result of a private pact the two had made years earlier, during one of the hardest chapters of her life. He wrote about how they had spoken, while she was in the hospital, about the healing power that nature and the outdoors can offer both the body and the mind.

The National Three Peaks Challenge

Kate, 44, completed the National Three Peaks Challenge, which involves climbing the highest peaks in England, Scotland, and Wales — Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis, and Snowdon — within a 24-hour window. The challenge, roughly 23 miles in total, was undertaken to raise funds and awareness for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

Photos shared by James showed him embracing his sister on the trail, along with a family portrait featuring their parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, Kate’s husband Prince William, and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Kate’s Own Words on the Challenge

Ahead of her brother’s post, Kate had shared her own message on Instagram on June 28, explaining that she took on the challenge not just as a physical feat, but as a way to explore life after a diagnosis and to give something back to a cause close to her heart. She spoke about the Royal Marsden’s significance in her own journey and the importance of holistic approaches to healthcare.

A week later, she posted additional photos from the hike, thanking supporters and sharing warm family moments with William and their children.
