Now let’s talk about what just happened today and the significance of this picture.
Today marks the first joint public appearance of Catherine and William in an engagement. And they did it in a very deliberate manner:
- They spent that engagement with Liz Hatton, a 16-year-old battling an aggressive form of cancer, and her family at Windsor.
- They did not allow any Royal reporter or official photographer present, nor informed anyone of Catherine’s presence.
- The couple invited Liz Hatton who is a talented photographer, to be the official photographer of the day and to not only take the photos with Catherine and William but also take the photos of honours recipients at a Windsor Castle investiture.
- In doing so, William and Catherine gave full copyright to Liz instead of letting the press merch this special first appearance
What an opportunity for her.
Liz wrote of the one-of-a-kind experience of spending the day with both William and Catherine, as the official photographer: “Such lovely, genuine and Kind people, I’m over the moon that my family and I had this experience”
Once again, Wales said it all without uttering a single word. They did not allow their first joint picture to be marketed by the media, they controlled it by giving the full copyright to a cancer patient and then releasing it on their official social media.
This is why the media is so upset with them: Wales has tight control over their narrative. They are on their timetable and do not bow to inside or external pressure. Thus, there is nothing the press can do about it but follow their lead.
