Prince William has paid a heartfelt tribute to Sir David Attenborough, describing the legendary broadcaster as a “guiding light” who has deeply influenced his children’s understanding of the natural world.
Speaking at a special celebration held at London’s Royal Albert Hall on May 8, the Prince of Wales honored Attenborough’s remarkable legacy as the environmental icon marked his 100th birthday. In his speech, William highlighted the profound impact the renowned natural historian has had not only globally, but also within his own family.

Prince William shared that his three children — Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8 — have grown up watching Attenborough’s documentaries, which have helped shape their appreciation for nature and the planet.
“Like millions around the world, my children have grown up with your extraordinary storytelling,” William said during the tribute. “You have opened their eyes to the wonders of nature and strengthened their belief that our planet is something worth protecting.”
The Prince described celebrating Attenborough’s century of life as a “rare privilege,” praising him for transforming the way people view Earth and for inspiring generations to care about environmental conservation.
