A positive family “sense of self” is an essential factor when it comes to mental health. It is as important as feeling loved and belonging. When the relationship between a child and his or her parents is abusive, the child may begin to have problems with his or her inner world, identity, and self-esteem. This leads to negative effects such as anxiety and even depression.
