5. They criticize themselves a lot

The low self-esteem created by toxic parents makes the child feel stupid, unworthy, and undeserving of anything better. In everything they do, these children criticize themselves, hesitate, and have doubts. They have accepted that they are worse than others, which causes them mental pain, but they cannot change the situation because they do not receive the necessary mental support.

6. Puts his or her emotions on the back burner
Parents who verbally or physically abuse neglect their children’s emotions. Moreover, when children try to express their feelings, this can lead to further abuse by the family. As a result, children become accustomed to hiding pain, resentment, and anger. Later in life, they may begin to value other people’s emotions more than their own.
Suppression of emotions also affects a person’s self-identification. They have difficulty understanding who they are, what they feel, and what they want in their lives. Thus, they fail to develop in the areas of life that are important to them because they are still mentally held back by uncertainty and lack of previous closeness.
