This is the second year in a row that the couple has not attended the traditional Easter Mass at Windsor Castle. Last year’s absence came shortly after the world learned of Princess Kate’s cancer diagnosis, a revelation that greatly affected royal fans around the world. While King Charles, Queen Camilla, and other members of the royal family prepare to attend the service on Sunday, April 20, the Cambridge family will focus on creating cherished memories together. Their choice to step back from the public eye reflects their desire to prioritize privacy and quality family moments.
Historically, the Easter outing has been a beloved tradition for the royals. The last time Kate and William attended was in 2023, when Prince Louis, now 6, joined them for his debut appearance. (Fun fact: Prince George, 11, and Princess Charlotte, 9, made their first Easter debut last year!)

I said to myself: ‘It’s 43 years since something like this happened to my generation of Villa fans and I want George to experience a great European game’,” he said. I hope it won’t be 43 years before something like this happens again, but I think it’s very important to create these memories.
The two also attended the return leg in Birmingham on April 15, reinforcing their bond around shared passions.

Balancing public and private life
Over the years, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis gradually joined their parents on more public occasions, such as the annual Christmas Day church visit and Trooping the Colour, the British monarch’s big birthday party in June. However, royal biographer Ingrid Seward notes that Kate and William remain cautious and don’t want to expose their children to too much criticism in today’s digital age.
