The Princess Catherine Shares Heartfelt Message After “Unforgettable” Italy Visit for Early Childhood Work

The Princess of Wales has shared a personal and emotional message following her recent visit to Italy, describing the experience as “deeply moving” and “unforgettable.”

Princess Kate, 44, traveled to Reggio Emilia for a two-day working visit from May 13 to May 14, marking a major moment in her public role. The trip not only introduced her Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood initiatives to an international audience, but also represented her first overseas working engagement since announcing her cancer diagnosis in March 2024 and her remission in January 2025.

A Personal Thank You to Reggio Emilia

On May 14, the Princess released a heartfelt note reflecting on what she witnessed during her time in the northern Italian city, which is globally respected for its pioneering early childhood education approach.

“Over the past two days in Reggio Emilia, I have seen firsthand the power of nature and creativity that put human connection at the centre of a child’s world,” she wrote.

She continued by thanking the local community for their warm reception.

“I have had such a deeply moving and unforgettable time here. Thank you to the people of Reggio Emilia for welcoming me into a culture of care with such warmth and generosity.”

Emphasizing the importance of her long-standing mission, she added that collective efforts in early childhood must focus on protecting and nurturing the relationships that build the foundation for lifelong wellbeing.

The Princess signed the message, “Grazie di cuore, C.” The Italian phrase translates to “Thank you from the heart,” and the letter “C” — for Catherine — signaled that the message was personally written.

According to royal reporter Roya Nikkhah, the Princess shared that visiting the city had long been on her list.

“I’ve been meaning to come for quite some time, so to be here now is very exciting,” she said during her appearance at the centre on May 13.
