In March 2013, Prince William attended the St. Patrick’s Day parade with Catherine, who was heavily pregnant. A security guard, Lee Wheeler, bluntly asked the then Duchess of Cambridge if she knew whether they were having a boy or a girl.
Catherine calmly replied that she didn’t yet know the sex of the baby, but that she was expecting a boy, while William was expecting a girl.
William wanted a girl he would dote on. He finally got his wish on May 2, 2015, when Catherine gave birth to their unique daughter, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.
And he was not the only one ecstatic; the Queen was jubilant. In 2013, The Succession to the Crown Act was amended to end the system of male primogeniture, under which a younger son took precedence over an elder daughter in the line of succession.
Princess Charlotte is, therefore, the first-ever Princess in British History to benefit from that law: She retained her place in the LOS in front of Prince Louis.
The Queen couldn’t wait to meet William and Catherine’s daughter. Princess Charlotte was just three days old when Queen Elizabeth II arrived at Kensington Palace from Norfolk on May 5 to meet her fifth great-granddaughter and fourth in line to the throne.
Charlotte is now 3rd in the LOS behind her older brother Prince George.
Commenting on the visit, Catherine said, “The Queen was very excited because it was going to be a baby and I think when we go back to Kensington it will be one of our first visits here.”
Having a daughter was “a joy from Heaven” for Prince William as he said himself. He further added:
“Having a daughter is a very different dynamic, so I’m learning how to have a daughter. Charlotte is very simple and very cute, but all the parents say: ‘Wait, when they’re 9, 10, 11, they’ll go crazy’. I’m looking forward to it; there’s going to be a bit of drama.
Daughters always have a special place in their father’s heart and Prince William is no different. Thus, while on a Walkabout in South Wales in 2020, a wellwisher Complimented Princess Charlotte to William saying: “She is my favorite Royal!”
Prince William replied: “Yes, she is lovely; just like my wife.” A happy marriage is a blessing indeed for Children. Wishing Princess Charlotte a very Happy 9th birthday.
