Princess Diana knew that Prince William was a bright boy with a great future as a king. William also had great sporting talent and got along well with others. He was a born leader and Diana called him her soul mate. For this reason, she did not care much for him and decided to speak to him at eye level at times.
Prince Harry was another matter. He had personality troubles such as not listening, acting out, anger issues, and more; and Diana grew frustrated with Harry frequently as he tried her patience. Harry also was not as intelligent as William, so Diana worried about that aspect as well. She wanted Harry to do well in life, but she knew for him being a support for William when he was king might be a challenge for someone a bit dim.

I think Princess Diana worried that Harry might be manipulated to do exactly what he has done: walked away from his family. Had she been alive, I think Harry would have been steadier by far. He would have found his place in the royal family and never dated or whatever he did with Meghan at those Soho Houses they both loved so much. Diana feared Harry might resent William’s destiny and not support him properly, so she tried to bond those two boys for life.

Diana did a good job with both sons. She just ran out of time. Prince William was already at Eton and fifteen, so he pushed through his grief. Harry was going on thirteen and essentially stopped growing emotionally at that age. His mother’s death wrecked him, and had Meghan not come along, I think Harry would be with his family in the UK. He might not have attracted a wife, but at least he wouldn’t have hurt his family this way.

I hate to call people dumb, but Harry is. Diana worried about him for good reasons. A bright person would assess the people they dated and hang around with, but Harry was swayed by Meghan’s talents (or a lie about being pregnant, the oldest lie in the book). Dim-witted souls have a more difficult time in life. They have fewer options, so being a prince was a good gig for Harry. Diana would have helped him as much as possible, and she may have placed him in therapy to deal with his cruel side.

Princess Diana left two sons behind. The smart one decided to make his mother proud and push through his grief, while the dull one decided to stop trying and coast along while deciding to use drugs and alcohol to find happiness. Harry wasn’t smart, so he dealt with life on a very base level. Did Diana see this? Probably not to this extent, but I doubt she’d be surprised he’s ruined his life and bond with his only brother.
