‘Catherine’s Rose’ Is Here Celebrates Commitment To Healing And Nature

The Royal Horticultural Society has named a coral-pink rose “Catherine’s Rose” in honor of the Princess of Wales.

Kate Middleton is in bloom, literally and figuratively.

On Friday, May 9, the Royal Horticultural Society announced that it had named a new rose after the 43-year-old Princess of Wales, in honor of her tireless efforts to “heal” nature.

‘Catherine’s Rose’ has “delicate coral pink flowers that are produced in profusion and have a rich fragrance with notes of Turkish delight and mango,” the RHS said in a statement.

And what’s even more encouraging? The proceeds from the sale of these exquisite flowers will be donated to the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, an organization of great personal significance to Kate. The actress was treated for cancer at the Royal Marsden Hospital, which makes this initiative even more significant.

“As a specialist cancer center, the Royal Marsden’s mission is to ensure that all patients receive the care and support they need to achieve the best possible outcomes and experience,” said Dame Cally Palmer, chief executive of the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.

“All roses sold will help The Royal Marsden deliver a unique training program for clinical teams across the country on prehabilitation and rehabilitation techniques that make a real difference to patient care,” continued Dame Palmer.

“We are honored that Their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales are joint patrons of our cancer center, and we are very grateful to the Princess and the Royal Horticultural Society for launching this initiative, which will benefit cancer patients worldwide,” continued Palmer.

A symbol of hope and healing

According to the press release, the Royal Marsden and the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) are the only biomedical research centers (BRCs) in the UK dedicated exclusively to cancer.

After announcing in September that she had finished her chemotherapy treatment, Princess Kate and her husband, Prince William, became joint trustees of the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust shortly after they visited the hospital in January this year.

At the time, cancer patient Angela Terry told PEOPLE that the visit had been a “great message of hope” and praised the Princess of Wales for inspiring others battling the disease.

A star at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show

The flower in Kate’s honor will make its debut at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, which will take place at the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London from May 20 to 24.

“Kate’s rose will not only support the incredible work of the Royal Marsden, but will also raise awareness that nature and gardening can contribute to healing,” said Clare Matterson, chief executive of the RHS.

“We know how important this message is, as we see every day how important access to nature and time spent outdoors is for our health and happiness.”

“This spectacular rose will bring great joy to all the gardeners in our country and will also support our precious pollinators. It’s a very special rose,” he concluded.

How to grow your own Catherine rose.

The Catherine rose has flowers that attract pollinators and is perfect for mixed beds, as a hedge, in a large pot, or a flower bed,” reads the RHS press release.

The clusters of this rose can have up to 15 flowers, each measuring between 8 and 12 cm. The plant is described as “robust and bushy” and grows up to 1.2 meters tall and 1.2 meters wide under normal conditions.

Philip Harkness, managing director of Harkness Roses, which produced the plant, said: “We are delighted that the RHS has named this beautiful floribunda rose after the Princess of Wales, which celebrates well-being and nature. It is a privilege for Harkness Roses to partner with The Royal Marsden, where donations of this beautiful rose will help raise funds for this important charity.”

Roses can be pre-ordered from Friday, May 9, at roses.co.uk and rhsplants.co.uk and will be delivered as bare-root plants in the fall of 2025. For every plant sold, 7 dollars (5 pounds) will be donated to the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

The bare root rose will cost $40 (£29.99), while the potted plant will be priced at $46 (£34.99). Additional Catherine’s Roses will become available in spring and fall 2026.
