California Attorney General Revokes Operation of Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s Archewell Foundation

Archewell in trouble: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s charity has financial problems in California

Prince Harry and Meghan’s charity, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, is reportedly in serious trouble. Their Archewell Foundation has run into trouble with the state of California, leading them to fear for the financial stability and future of the organization.

Founded in 2020 by the royal couple, Archewell is a non-profit organization that aims to “unleash the power of compassion” through various philanthropic initiatives. However, the foundation’s good intentions have been overshadowed by non-compliance with government regulations.

According to a report by PageSix, the California Attorney General’s office has deemed Archewell “delinquent,” a designation that comes with serious consequences. This means the foundation is now prohibited from raising or spending any funds, effectively grinding its operations to a halt.

The root of the issue lies in Archewell’s lack of compliance with the state’s requirements for charities and foundations. California mandates that such organizations submit an annual report and pay the necessary registration fees to maintain their status. Sadly, it appears Archewell has fallen short on both fronts.

“An organization placed on the bad payer list is not in good standing and may not engage in acts requiring registration, including the collection or use of charitable funds,” reads the bad payer notice received by PageSix; the organization may also be subject to sanctions and the suspension or revocation of registration by the registry.

This is a significant blow to Archewell, which operates not only as a non-profit but also includes for-profit business divisions focused on media production, such as Archewell Audio and Archewell Productions. The delinquent status has effectively handcuffed the foundation, preventing it from raising money or allocating resources to its various initiatives and projects.

According to a source familiar with the situation, Archewell tried to register, but never received the check sent to pay the required fees. The foundation only became aware of the problem when it received the notice of non-compliance from the government bodies.

LATEST ROYAL NEWS:

The source noted that the problem is expected to be resolved in the coming days, as Archewell works to rectify the situation. However, until the necessary paperwork is submitted and fees are paid, the foundation remains in a state of limbo, unable to carry out its charitable work.

This financial setback comes at a particularly inopportune time for Harry and Meghan, who are currently in Nigeria as part of their Invictus Games commitments and a special invitation. Their trip to the African country has been seen as a type of royal engagement, with the couple being celebrated for their efforts and appreciation of the local culture.

The timing of this news is particularly troubling, as it threatens to overshadow the positive momentum generated by their Nigeria visit. It also raises questions about the overall financial health and stability of Archewell, which has been a central focus for the couple since their step back from royal duties in 2020.

When Harry and Meghan return to California, they will undoubtedly be faced with the pressing issue of Archewell’s insolvency. The success and longevity of their philanthropic efforts may depend on their ability to quickly overcome this financial obstacle and restore the foundation’s reputation in the eyes of the state of California.
