Netflix Likely to Drop Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Amid Unsuccessful Projects

The Unbreakable Bond That Broke: Prince William and Prince Harry

Recent reports have claimed that Netflix is pushing forward with a Meghan Markle cooking show and a series on professional polo featuring Prince Harry.

However, it seems the streaming giant is “not expected” to renew the high-profile, five-year, $100 million contract it signed with the Sussexes in 2020. This insight comes from Puck co-founder Matthew Belloni and entertainment journalist Lesley Goldberg.

According to them, none of the couple’s subsequent projects have managed to “connect” with audiences in the same way as their initial offerings. Notably, Meghan’s “passion project,” an animated children’s series titled “Pearl,” was canceled before production could even begin. Similarly, Meghan’s upcoming cooking show and Harry’s planned polo series are anticipated to suffer the same fate—failing to “connect” with viewers.

Frankly, this comes as no surprise. The Sussex brand has been sinking like the Titanic ever since their infamous Oprah interview, with Harry’s memoir “Spare” serving as the final nail in the coffin.

Their only marketable angle has consistently been to play the “victims of the Royal Family (RF).” This is evident in the projects that did succeed:

  • The Oprah interview, the “Me You Can’t See” series, their Netflix docuseries, and “Spare.” Each project focused on attacking the RF with unsubstantiated claims, many of which were later exposed as falsehoods.

Beyond this, their other ventures have been failures:

  • Harry’s Invictus documentary flopped. Meghan’s children’s book, “The Bench,” performed so poorly that she was spotted using copies as laptop stands—probably with the rest supporting the chicken coop.
  • Their “Live to Lead” documentary was a non-starter, with most people unaware it even exists. Meghan’s “Archetypes” podcast, despite being marketed as Spotify’s #1 show, was canceled along with their contract. Meghan’s “Pearl” was also shelved before it could take off.

These facts paint a clear picture: Outside of the RF, Harry and Meghan have zero marketability.

After oversharing and exposing themselves, the public has turned against them. Every interview or award show they attend now receives a cold reception.

For instance, their latest CBS interview, the ESPN Tillman award, and Harry’s Invictus docuseries were all met with abysmal reception. On YouTube, these videos averaged a staggering 12% likes to 89% dislikes ratio, accompanied by thousands of negative comments.

What should Netflix do? How can they sell a cooking show or merchandise when the public holds such strong disdain for the duo?

LATEST ROYAL NEWS:

Everything they do is negatively received. Their recent trip to Colombia, for example, was mocked and heavily criticized by Colombians. The local press reported that “the security measures for Harry and Meghan’s tour cost poor Colombia 1.5 million pounds”, or 8 billion pesos. And for what? Colombia gained nothing from it—a microcosm of the H&M brand itself.

It’s now clear why the VP of Colombia mentioned Netflix when justifying Harry and Meghan’s invitation. The couple likely knew that Netflix would not renew their contract, so they attempted to give the impression that their presence in Colombia was a significant win for the streaming platform.

However, Netflix seems to have realized, albeit too late, that Harry and Meghan were a poor investment. What they thought was gold turned out to be two average potatoes coated in gold paint.

In the end, the Royal Family’s silence provided enough rope for Harry and Meghan to trip themselves up, which they certainly did. Now, they’ve devolved into “rent-a-royals,” losing value so rapidly that they might soon be hired out for birthday parties or weddings—like clowns and comedians.
