Prince Harry is grappling with a profound sense of betrayal after his legal battle over security revealed what he describes as a calculated effort to control his life. In raw and candid remarks to PEOPLE, the Duke of Sussex shared that his “worst fears have been confirmed” during the legal proceedings—words that reflect the deep emotional toll this ongoing rift with the royal family has taken on him. 
A Painful Realization
Harry, 40, spent two intense days at the Royal Courts of Justice in London, deeply immersed in hearings related to his appeal to remove state-backed security for him and his wife Meghan Markle in 2020. Upon leaving court on April 9, Harry admitted to feeling “exhausted and overwhelmed,” adding that the revelations of the case were “really sad.”
The couple had hoped their proposal to live abroad while continuing to support the monarchy would create a “happy house” —a solution that would allow them to thrive personally and professionally while maintaining their public service. However, when they stepped back from royal duties, their security was abruptly revoked—a move Harry now believes was deliberate, aimed at forcing them to return to the fold.
Court documents revealed that Queen Elizabeth herself had expressed support for Harry and Meghan’s need for “effective security.” However, a month later, the government commission responsible for state-funded security, RAVEC, informed the couple that their protection was no longer guaranteed.
