Prince William has shared a heartfelt update on Princess Kate’s recovery following her recent battle with cancer, describing her as the pillar of their family during a rare live appearance on the U.K. radio show Heart Breakfast on May 22.
Speaking from the Isles of Scilly, where he was visiting to open a new Duchy of Cornwall-backed hospital facility, the Prince of Wales, 43, expressed deep admiration for his wife’s resilience and dedication.
“She’s an amazing mum, an amazing wife, and literally, our family couldn’t cope without her,” William said. “She’s been absolutely stunning, brilliant.”

Kate Middleton’s Recovery and Return to Royal Duties
Princess Kate recently completed her first overseas engagement since announcing her cancer diagnosis, traveling to Reggio Emilia, Italy, to support her long-standing Early Years initiative. According to Prince William, the trip was an important milestone in her gradual return to public life.
“She’s been through so much in the last couple of years,” he shared. “I’m so proud, very, very proud. She’d been looking forward to the Italian trip a lot, and I’m really glad it went really well.”
William noted that while Kate is feeling positive, balancing royal duties with rest remains essential. “Away trips like that take a lot out of you, so we have to make sure she’s okay and rested. But she’s in good form.”
A Passion for Early Childhood Development
The Princess of Wales continues to focus strongly on her Early Years project, a cause she has championed for over a decade. William humorously revealed that her dedication often fills their evenings at home.
“She spends God knows how much time looking through paperwork. She’s a proper pro on early years,” he said. “Most evenings I’m fighting to get past the paperwork lined up ready to read.”
Her commitment to research and advocacy, he added, is one of the reasons her recent trip was so meaningful.

Family Life with George, Charlotte, and Louis
During the interview, Prince William also offered a glimpse into family life with their three children — Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8.
Admitting he’s “definitely not a morning person,” William described the lively routine of school drop-offs, music lessons, and the occasional chaos.
“If there’s a guitar lesson, you’ve got to get the guitar in the car. There’s always something going on,” he said with a laugh. He also joked that Prince Louis often leaves “jam fingerprints throughout the car.”
William even gave a playful shout-out to his children on air: “Charlotte, Louis, if you’re listening, make sure you’re on time — and not fighting over what’s playing!”

Taylor Swift, Football, and Light-Hearted Moments
The Prince also shared that Princess Charlotte is a big Taylor Swift fan. William attended the singer’s Eras Tour with Charlotte and Prince George, calling the experience “amazing.”
Meanwhile, he briefly touched on his recent trip to Istanbul to watch his favorite football club, Aston Villa, win a European trophy.
“I try to remind myself I’m just a football fan,” he said. “But then you realize a lot of people are watching you!”
