“We wish Kate and her family all the best and hope they can do so in peace and privacy.”
However, friends of Prince William reportedly disclosed that he was not pleased with the couple’s decision to refer to The Princess of Wales as “Kate.” Many royal fans perceived this as a subtle dig, especially from M, who often refers to Catherine as “Kate” and has even called the late Queen ‘Harry’s granny’. According to William’s friends, this choice of words did not go unnoticed by either him or Catherine.
“According to insiders, H&M’s decision to call his wife “Kate” was “a deliberate and unnecessary irritation.”
While Catherine was known as “Kate” during her school and university days, she opted to use her full name in public life shortly before marrying William. This wasn’t just a public change; it extended to her private life as well.
Catherine is the name used by friends and family and the name William uses in private. It’s also the way she introduces herself to others: not as ‘Princess of Wales’, not as ‘Princess Catherine’, but simply as ‘Catherine’.
A source revealed to the Daily Beast that Prince William was annoyed when Harry and Meghan referred to the princess as “Kate” in their March 2024 statement, which was released after she announced her cancer diagnosis.
A friend of the Prince and Princess of Wales commented:
“It is surprising that Harry and Meghan did not use her chosen name even when they sent her get-well messages after her cancer diagnosis.”
