The 76-year-old king and 77-year-old queen once again took their place in a carriage during the annual horse race, which celebrated its 200th anniversary.
For the third time in four days, King Charles and Queen Camilla took their seats in a carriage, but this trip was particularly significant.
The royal couple arrived at Royal Ascot on June 18 during the traditional procession around the racecourse, commemorating the 200th anniversary of the introduction of this ceremony by King George IV in 1825. This annual event remains, along with the Chelsea Flower Show and the palace garden parties, a pillar of the British summer season and was particularly dear to the late Queen Elizabeth.

King Charles exuded royal elegance in his top hat and suit, while Queen Camilla won hearts in a light green Dior dress adorned with the heart-shaped Cullinan Diamond brooch and a matching feathered hat by Philip Treacy.
This appearance follows a series of recent public appearances by the royal couple. Charles, who is undergoing cancer treatment, and Camilla appeared in public again on June 14, just one day after attending the historic Order of the Garter ceremony at Windsor Castle and presiding over the king’s official birthday parade, Trooping the Colour.
Royal determination and grace shone through when King Charles, 76, and Queen Camilla, 77, met with Princess Anne (Charles’ sister), her son Peter Phillips, and his fiancée Harriet Sperling on June 17. The royal party also included author Anthony Horowitz, known for the Alex Rider series —a very appropriate guest, given Queen Camilla’s ongoing efforts to promote reading and writing. Her initiative, The Queen’s Reading Room, is featured throughout the week at Ascot.

Other guests who had lunch with the king and queen at Windsor Castle included Prince Faisal bin Salman Al Saud, Camilla’s friend Lady Keswick, and the queen’s sister Annabel Elliot.
Prince William and Kate Middleton are expected to appear later in the week, while King Charles will attend all five days of Royal Ascot. This series of festive royal appearances will conclude with Prince William’s 43rd birthday.
The royal pride and enthusiasm of the Queen was palpable in the atmosphere, with King Charles and Queen Camilla entering a horse in the 5 p.m. race, aptly named Reaching High. In a warm message to racegoers, published in the official program, the couple expressed their delight at seeing their horses triumph.
“Last year, we were delighted to see an Australian winner take the first King Charles III Stakes,” they wrote, “and we look forward to seeing several international champions compete against each other this week.”

“Having had the opportunity to experience the joy of victory at Royal Ascot 2023 ourselves, we can only wish good luck to all those taking part this week and hope that all spectators have a delightful five days,” they added.
They also paid tribute to the 200th anniversary of the carriage parade and praised the horses that will be in service this week, as well as the horses that pull the royal carriages.
The royal procession “has since become an indispensable part of the Royal Meeting and a unique spectacle in the world of horse racing. The Windsor Greys are wonderful every day and deserve special recognition in this special year, as do the members of the Royal Mews who care for all the horses with such dedication,” they wrote.
