How does the Duchess of Cambridge's wardrobe work: is she supplied with clothes for free by designers, or is there some sort of fee arrangement?

From 2023, Catherine will be the Princess of Wales, but her dresses will always have to be paid for: royalty never accepts free dresses. It is one of their rules and Catherine’s dresses are paid for by Prince William’s Duchy of Cornwall.

Designers love to style most of the royals, and Catherine has a slim frame and height to make clothes look terrific on her; so designers are thrilled when she wears one of their creations. The Princess of Wales tries to wear British brands most of the time, and this way they are given a spotlight. Highlighting British items is a priority.

As for how her wardrobe works, Catherine has a stylist she works with to look nice and appropriate on every occasion. Natasha Archer is the stylist, and they work together to decide what the princess will wear and who will be the source. They can choose from a recycled outfit, a high street brand, a regular chain store, ready-to-wear couture, and haute couture.

Natasha calls in some options from designers, then she and Catherine go through them together to see what she likes. The styles that don’t work will be sent back to the designers or stores, and they buy the ones Catherine will wear. For special occasions, the princess will wear a custom design made just for her, though many dresses and outfits have details added that make it essentially a one-of-a-kind outfit.

Natasha knows how most clothes will fit the Princess of Wales, so she will only need to try them on once. For the designers’ gowns and outfits, however, Catherine will go through several fittings. Catherine the Princess of Wales has been working with her stylist since 2007, and they work very well together. Timeless elegance is supposed to be the look Catherine is going for, and she looks fabulous time after time it does seem like all that attention to detail is paying off.
