The Duke and Duchess of Sussex won’t join the royal family at the first public festivity of their father Charles’ birthday.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry won’t attend the big royal event on Saturday.
The parade will feature hundreds of soldiers from the British Army, which Prince Harry decorated after two tours of duty in Afghanistan during his 10-year military career. The Royal Air Force will also hold a special parade. The Royal Air Force is expecting an exciting display.
The couple, who have lived in California since retiring as a working member of the royal family in 2020, returned to the U.K. last year to attend the Trooping the Colour parade – the last in the reign of his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth – where they and other members of the royal family watched the Horse Guards parade from an upper room. The parade was part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, which commemorate the seven decades of Queen Elizabeth’s reign.

Prince Harry, 38, and Meghan, 41, had formerly shared in Trooping the Colour together in 2018( just a month after their royal marriage at Windsor Castle), and in 2019, 2020, and 2021, the event was gauged back due to the COVID- 19 epidemic and took place for Queen Elizabeth at Windsor Castle without a large gathering of royals.
Prince Harry was in the UK last week when he appeared in court as part of the case against the Mirror Group Newspapers. He stayed at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor. Despite her proximity to Prince William’s home and spending more time in the country than at Prince Charles’ coronation last month, it is unlikely she saw her father or brother.

The couple was invited to King Charles and Queen Camilla’s coronation ceremony on May 6. But when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex received an email from Charles’ office informing them of the coronation, it became clear that the “meeting” the prince wanted to have following the publication of his memoir ‘Spare’ to discuss his troubles would not take place, a close friend told PEOPLE.
According to Vanity Fair, when Harry recently traveled to Britain to testify in the case against Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN), he did not visit his family. The Prince’s decision to take legal action against the press would have further alienated him from his family, according to the publication.

“They hadn’t heard from Charles. Harry wanted to hear it directly from his father, he always goes through someone,” the friend told the magazine. Only the Duke of Sussex would attend the ceremony.
Prince Harry attended the event alone and returned to California on the day of the coronation, which fell on his son’s birthday.
On Saturday, Prince William led the final parade rehearsal. William, 40, later congratulated the troops for stoically continuing with preparations despite the intense heat (which caused at least one guard to faint).
The office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Buckingham Palace declined to comment.
